Tamilnadu Diaries : Madurai to Rameswaram

Welcome to my travel blog series , "Love Travelling" .

Rameswaram is one of the four major Dhams, and my journey for the Char Dham Yatra began here. I visited Rameswaram with my family on March 10, 2020, just before the pandemic. I never imagined that this would be my first and last trip with my mother-in-law. Sadly, she passed away soon after. May she rest in peace. 🙏 Losing a loved one is never easy, but life teaches us to keep moving forward.

This last trip with her will always hold a special place in my heart. Now, I'd like to share my experience with you.

The best time to visit Rameshwaram is between November and February. We visited in March when the weather had already started getting quite hot. If you're planning a trip, I highly recommend setting aside at least 3–4 days to explore Rameshwaram properly. Unfortunately, we could only stay for two days, which wasn’t enough to visit every temple. However, we did our best to cover most of the significant places near Rameshwaram.

Day 1

Prasad (offerings) and flowers are allowed inside the temple, so you can buy them before entering.Phones are not allowed inside the temple; you must submit them at the designated counter before entering. However, you can take photos outside the temple after completing your darshan. We visited Thirumalai Nayak Palace, Mariamman Tank, and the Meenakshi Amman Temple.Unfortunately, we couldn’t attend the night ceremony at Meenakshi Amman Temple due to time constraints. We stayed overnight at a hotel in Rameshwaram and booked a private traveler through the hotel for convenience.

Day 2
We drove to Rameshwaram and visited the Panchamuga Hanuman Temple, the APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial, and Dhanushkodi and Adam's Bridge. We stayed overnight at a hotel in Rameshwaram. You must try the local Tamil Nadu cuisine, including sambar, idli, and dosa.
