Gujarat Diaries : Dwarkadhish to Somnath Temple

Welcome to my travel blog series , "Love Travelling" .

On 3rd December 2024, I visited Gujarat with my family in December, which is the best time to visit Gujarat. The weather was pleasant, neither too cold nor too hot.

Day 1 (Dwarkadhish Temple)

The Dwarkadhish Temple was near our hotel. We had a great darshan (visit) in the evening, and fortunately, there was less crowd.

One important thing to note is that no prasad (offerings) or flowers are allowed inside the temple, so avoid buying anything from outside. The Dwarkadhish Temple is one of the four dhams (pilgrimage sites) in India.

Also, phones are not allowed inside the temple. You will need to submit your phone at the designated counter before entering. However, after completing your darshan, you can take photos outside the temple—just like I did!

Day 2 (Nageshwar Dham)

we visited Nageshwar, which is one of the Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Gujarat is home to two JyotirlingasNageshwar and Somnath.

Nageshwar is located approximately 16 km from Dwarka, and you can easily reach it using local transport.

On the same day, I also visited Bet Dwarka, which is believed to be the place where Lord Krishna, the King of Dwarka, would meet his childhood friend Sudama and other devotees. Bet Dwarka is about 18 km from Nageshwar.

One important update—the ferry service to Bet Dwarka is now closed, as a new overbridge is available for travel.

Day 3 (Shivrajpur Beach)

We visited Shivrajpur Beach, and I must say—it’s far better than Goa! I had a wonderful time there with my entire family. The beach offers a variety of water activities and sports, making it a perfect spot for adventure lovers.

Shivrajpur Beach is located approximately 15 km from the Dwarkadhish Temple. It’s an ideal place for a day trip with family and friends, where you can enjoy a picnic and relax by the shore. The beach is incredibly clean and beautifully maintained, adding to its charm.

A popular tourist destination in Gujarat, Shivrajpur Beach is well known for its pristine waters and breathtaking scenic views. If you’re in Dwarka, it’s definitely worth a visit!

Day 4 (Somnath Temple)

Somnath is a Jyotirlinga (a sacred Shiva temple). The Somnath Temple is approximately 236 km away from the Dwarkadhish Temple. We traveled there by booking a private car, which took us around 3-4 hours to reach Somnath.

One of the best parts of our trip was staying at the Somnath Trust, which was far better than a hotel, both in terms of comfort and affordability. Plus, you can see the Somnath Temple right from your room window! If you're planning to visit, you can book your stay online through their official website.

The Somnath Temple and Somnath Trust are located side by side, making it convenient to visit the temple at any time. The best time to visit the Somnath Temple is between 6-7 PM. Around 7:30 PM, there is a light and sound show, which was truly mesmerizing. The show beautifully narrates the history of the Somnath Temple through an impressive lighting display. It's a must-watch if you're visiting!

Day 5 ("A relaxing weekend getaway")

Last but not least, we stayed at the Wyndham Resort in Gujarat for two days, and it was truly an amazing experience.

We also explored the local cuisine of Gujarat, trying delicious dishes like fafda, jalebi, dhokla, dahi khichdi, mohanthal, and many more.

One more important tip—use local transport to visit temples, as it's affordable and convenient.

In my opinion, Gujarat is a wonderful state. You must visit to experience its rich culture and explore the history of Lord Krishna!
